Tribadism

Tribadism or tribbing is a sexual technique for women, whereby she rubs her vulva (i.e. her crotch, usually focusing on her clit) against her partner. This non-penetrative form of sex, analogous to the male practice of Frottage, usually involves two lesbians mutually tribbing each other (also commonly called scissoring, clam jousting, bumping fur, and other names). It can also involve a woman tribbing on her partner's thigh, arm, stomach, or even inanimate objects such as a pillow or stuffed animal. Similar to most other lesbian sex practices, there is a decreased risk for STD's such as HIV because of a lack of penetration. However, unprotected exchange of vaginal fluids is a risky behavior, and tribbing can transmit crabs, herpes, genital warts and other STD's. Many women find tribbing to be a great way to acheive orgasm though that all-important stimulation of the clitoris. For men, letting a woman grind on you can be a great way to please your lady without having to worry about holding back ejaculation.

Why tribbing?

Tribbing can be a fun and intimate form of sex for lesbian partners, and is also a great alternative way for heterosexual women to achieve orgasm. Not only is tribbing a good way to acheive orgasm (multiple times for some), it almost unanimously is a prime way to feel close to your partner.

First things first: to lube or not to lube? Quite a few women find that they can get aroused enough not to need artificial lubrication for tribbing. However, care to avoid soreness is important, and you may want to consider using water-based lubricant (such as KY or Astroglide).

Probably the number one barrier to trying tribbing for some women is getting over the initial physical awkwardness of the mechanics of the deed. Tribadism requires a position that both allows close contact of two crotches, and the freedom to move (you are basically humping after all). The classic position is the Missionary (sometimes tribbing is even thought of as the lesbian version of vanilla hetero sex). Most other positions require the couple to be both lying on their backs, crotches towards each other (obviously), and one partner "scissoring" )(hence the name) their legs around the other. Some women may not be the right size or possess enough flexibility to do a position, the best thing is just to try it out. If any one position doesn't do it for you, the only solution is to try another.
